Portable Identity
Portable Identity is the principle that one MELEK account is a single, portable identity across every SoapBox surface. Instead of a fresh profile for each app, the same account — with its avatar, REN name, balances, and credential badges — follows you from app to app. It is meant to be a "better-than-Gravatar" identity: not just a picture, but your name, your capital, and your earned standing, all carried by the chain.
What travels with you
Because your identity lives on the MELEK chain rather than inside any one app's database, the same things follow you everywhere:
- Avatar — your picture, consistent across surfaces.
- REN name — your on-chain name (for example a .melek name), the same wherever you go.
- Capital / balances — your account's holdings are readable by every app, not siloed.
- Credential badges — credentials and reputation you earn are attached to the account itself.
Why it works
Every SoapBox app reads the one underlying MELEK account, so there is no per-app sign-up and no separate profile to rebuild. You are the same person on the microblog, in the wiki, in the pool, and in chat. Pentecaust uses this to offer single sign-on and cross-app contacts, and the wider ecosystem map at soapbox.community is built around it.
