Wartime Stories

Wartime Stories is a narrated storytelling channel and podcast focused on the strange, unexplained, and paranormal experiences of military servicemembers. It is hosted by Luke Lamana, a Marine Corps Reconnaissance veteran, and produced by Ballen Studios. It appears in Media and Personalities as a YouTuber entry, covered for its content and format.

What it makes

The format is first-hand accounts: stories, often submitted by servicemembers and military families, of encounters that military life left unexplained — shadow figures and apparitions, cryptid sightings (dogman, skinwalkers, "pale crawlers," Bigfoot-type entities), haunted bases and barracks, and other dark-and-mysterious episodes from deployments and installations around the world. Representative entries carry titles like "Strange Things in Guam," "Skinwalkers in Germany," and accounts of soldiers who vanished on American soil.

Style

Lamana frames each story with historical and military context and his own background, giving the paranormal material a grounded, veteran's-eye narration rather than pure campfire horror. The result sits between true-military-history, folklore, and ghost story — part of the larger strange-dark-mysterious storytelling wave (it is produced under the same Ballen Studios umbrella as the MrBallen shows). Reception is mixed in the usual way of the genre: praised for narration and atmosphere, occasionally faulted when a story ends on little more than "a shadow moved."

Why it fits the Library

Military encounter-lore is a real and under-examined folklore tradition — the ghost stories of people who were trained to be the least superstitious observers imaginable. It connects to the Library's interest in the uncanny, in anomaly, and in how institutions handle experiences they can't categorize.
