The Matrix Supply Holders and Market Cap

  1. The Matrix: Supply, Holders, and Market Cap

A coin's headline "market cap" is just **supply × price** — and that arithmetic hides more than it reveals. This article lays out the real tokenomics of the MELEK-family tokens (**MELEK**, **CURE**, **VKBT**) beside the larger Graphene chains (**STEEM**, **HIVE**, **BLURT**), using **live figures**, and shows why what matters is **how few coins exist**, **how many people hold them**, and **how much actually trades** — not the notional cap. Figures captured from live chain and Hive-Engine data; treat exact numbers as of capture, not fixed.

The Matrix: what "market cap" multiplies

Market cap assumes every coin could sell at the quoted price at once. Here is the ladder — each token's **notional** cap at several prices (supply × price):

How few coins there are

Scarcity is the first real fact. The established chains each carry over half a **billion** coins; the MELEK-family tokens are orders of magnitude scarcer:

A coin at $1 with 68,408 units is a very different object from a coin at $1 with 576 million units — the same price implies a market **thousands of times** smaller, or a per-coin value that can move far more on the same demand.

How many people hold them

Scarcity alone can mean one whale. Distribution is the second real fact — and this is the surprising part:

So these are not one-wallet tokens: they are **scarce and broadly held** — the two properties a healthy small-cap wants, in place before a market even forms.

Volume: what actually trades

The third real fact undoes the illusion. Market cap pretends the whole supply is liquid; real order books are thin. Prices below are in HIVE (on-chain median feed ≈ $0.039/HIVE at capture):

Thin volume is not a verdict on the token — it is the gap a real market is meant to close. It is also why a working DEX matters: KulaSwap exists to give these scarce, widely-held tokens an actual two-sided market, so value can move.

What to actually read

Judge a token by three real things, not the headline cap:

  1. Supply — is it genuinely scarce? (MELEK, CURE, VKBT: yes, by hundreds to thousands of times.)
  2. Holders — widely distributed, or one whale? (CURE, VKBT: 10,000+ holders each.)
  3. Real volume — can you actually get in and out today? (Thin now; what a market like KulaSwap is for.)

By those measures the MELEK-family tokens are **scarce and widely held**, with **thin liquidity** that a working exchange is built to deepen. Scarcity and distribution are the durable facts; **market cap is just arithmetic**.
