Signing In to Post on MELEK
Signing in to melek.salon lets you post, reply, vote and follow. Every one of those actions is a transaction signed with one of your account's keys. Part of Posting on MELEK.
How to sign in
Open melek.salon/login.html, or choose Log in in the header. Enter your account name, then your posting key (a private key starting with 5) or your account password. Tick Keep me logged in on a device only you use. You can also sign in with the Keychain browser extension, which keeps keys in the extension instead of the page.
Which key to use
A MELEK account has several keys with different powers:
- Posting key: posts, replies, votes, follows. This is the key to sign in with.
- Active key: transfers, powering up, witness votes. Use it only in the wallet, when you move funds.
- Owner key: changes the other keys and recovers the account. Keep it offline. Never type it into a website to post.
- Memo key: encrypts and decrypts private memos.
Signing in with only the posting key means a lost or stolen session cannot move your money.
Where your keys go
The key is used in your browser to sign each action. It is not sent to the operator's server. Keys for new accounts are generated in the browser at signup for the same reason.
Lost a key?
If you still have your password or owner key, set new keys with Change Account Password in the menu. If an account is taken over, recovery runs through signer.melek.salon/recover.
